How much is window tinting? It's one of the questions we hear most at our Coeur d'Alene shop, usually right before the first hot week of summer. If you've been looking up window tinting prices in CDA or Spokane, you've probably noticed a lot of what's online is vague. So here's what our ceramic tint generally costs, what moves the price, and how to pick a shop so you only pay for tint once.
Ceramic window tint prices
Here's the short version. Tint on the sides and rear is generally $450 to $650, depending on the vehicle. The front two windows are around $220. Everything on the sides and rear is ceramic tint.
A few notes so there are no surprises:
- Where you land in that range depends on your vehicle. How much glass it has, how big and awkward the windows are, and how long the car takes to tint cleanly all play a part.
- Idaho sales tax (6%) is added.
- Your final price is confirmed with your year, make, and model. Two vehicles that look about the same from the parking lot can have very different glass, and we'd rather give you a real price up front than a guess.
We also offer carbon tint, but only for the front two windows. Everything else we tint is ceramic.
What affects window tinting prices in Spokane and CDA
How many windows you tint
More glass means more film and more labor. Some people just match the front two windows to the factory privacy glass in back. Others do the sides and rear, or add a strip across the top of the windshield.
Vehicle size and type
A full-size SUV or a van has more glass than a sedan, and some of those windows are big and awkward to work on. That's a big part of why the price for the sides and rear depends on the vehicle.
Why tinting a German car costs more
People ask about this one a lot. German vehicles generally take us more time to tint cleanly, and the price for your vehicle reflects that time.
Windshield tint: strip or full ceramic
If glare is your main complaint, a strip across the top of the windshield is the common fix. We also offer full windshield tint. Our full windshield ceramic film is about 75% VLT. It's great for heat rejection and UV protection, but legally it's for off-road use only.
Already have tint?
If your vehicle has old film that's purple, peeling, or bubbled, we can remove it before the new tint goes on. Tint removal is billed by the hour, since every car's old film comes off differently. One honest caution: taking old tint off the rear window can damage the defroster lines, so we'll talk that through with you before we start.
Ceramic tint vs regular tint
For the front two windows, you can choose carbon or ceramic, and that's the biggest decision you'll make. Everything else we tint is ceramic.
Carbon tint(front two windows only) is for looks and privacy. It gives your front windows a darker, cleaner look that matches the factory privacy glass in back. If the look is what you're after, carbon is a good choice for those two windows.
Ceramic tint is for comfort. With ceramic, you'll feel about 70% less heat coming through the glass. It also cuts glare and cuts down the UV that fades your dash and seats over time.
Clear ceramic tint is an option a lot of people don't know about. It's hardly noticeable on the glass, so your car keeps its factory look, but it still does a great job blocking heat. Like our other ceramic film, it means about 70% less heat you feel coming through the glass. It's a good fit if you want the comfort without going darker.
Is ceramic tint worth it?
For most people who drive around here in July and August, I think it is. North Idaho and the Spokane area get real summer heat, and a car parked in a lot in Coeur d'Alene or Spokane Valley turns into an oven. Feeling about 70% less heat through the glass is something you notice every drive: the AC catches up faster, the sun on your arm is less harsh, and your interior is better protected from UV fading. If you mostly care about appearance and privacy on the front two windows, carbon will do the job there, and we'll help you pick the film that fits how you use your car.
"My back windows are already tinted"
We hear this one all the time. Most SUVs, trucks, and vans come with dark glass in the back, but factory privacy glass isn't true window tint. It's glass that's dyed dark for privacy, and it doesn't do much against the heat you feel. Clear ceramic tint on those rear windows barely changes how they look, but it noticeably cuts the heat and UV coming into the back seat and cargo area. Just like the technology in your car has changed, so has the reason we tint windows. It used to be that tint was mostly about looks and privacy. Now we do it for comfort and to protect the inside of the car. For more on this, read factory privacy glass vs window tint: do you still need tint?
What you get for your money
- A lifetime manufacturer warranty. Our window tint comes with a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer covering manufacturing defects and fading. The purple, bubbly tint you remember from years ago isn't what we install.
- A clean install environment. We tint in a clean shop with air filtration and surgical-grade water, which keeps dust and debris out from under the film.
- Careful prep and fitting. Glass gets cleaned thoroughly, and film is shaped to fit your glass for clean edges and a factory look.
- Honest advice on film and shade. We'll help you pick a shade that fits how you drive and the rules for the state your vehicle is registered in.
How to choose a window tint shop (and why the cheapest tint costs more)
Your installer matters more than your film
Here's something most people don't hear until it's too late: good film installed badly is still a bad tint job. The film gets most of the attention, but the person installing it decides whether your tint looks clean and lasts. A lifetime manufacturer warranty means a lot more when the installer did the job right in the first place and is still around to stand behind it.
Why is cheap window tint a bad idea?
When a shop's main selling point is the lowest price, the savings usually come out of time and care. Here's what that can look like:
- Bubbles and peeling from rushed prep or low-quality film.
- Dust, hair, or debris trapped under the film, where it stays for good.
- Sloppy edges and gaps you notice every time you roll the window down.
- Knife cuts on your glass or rubber seals from careless trimming on the car.
- Illegal shades that can get you pulled over.
- No one to call when something goes wrong and you need warranty help.
When a cheap job fails, you pay to have the old film taken off and then pay again for new tint. Doing it twice almost always costs more than doing it right once.
Questions to ask any tint shop
Ask what film they install and what the warranty covers. Ask how they handle a warranty claim. Ask to see finished cars up close, and look at the edges. A good shop is happy to answer all of it.
Idaho and Washington window tint laws
Tint darkness is measured by how much light passes through the glass. In general, Idaho requires the front side windows to let in at least 35%, and Washington's general limit is 24% light transmission. Both states have more detailed rules for other windows, plus exceptions, and laws can change, so confirm the current rules for the state your vehicle is registered in. For more detail, read our guide to Idaho vs Washington tint laws.
Please check the tint laws for the state your vehicle is registered in before choosing a shade. Any tint outside those laws is considered for off-road use only.

At Glänzen, tint is generally $450 to $650 for the sides and rear, depending on the vehicle, and around $220 for the front two windows. Idaho sales tax (6%) is added, and we confirm the final price with your year, make, and model. Carbon tint is offered only for the front two windows; everything else we tint is ceramic.
Is ceramic tint worth it?
If you want to be more comfortable in the car, yes. With ceramic, you'll feel about 70% less heat coming through the glass, and it helps with glare and UV fading. If you mostly want the look and privacy on your front two windows, carbon is a good option there.
Does window tint come with a warranty?
Ours does. Our window tint comes with a lifetime manufacturer warranty covering manufacturing defects and fading. That warranty is worth the most when the tint is installed right and the shop is still around to help you use it.
Why is cheap window tint a bad idea?
Cheap tint often means rushed work: bubbles, peeling, dirt under the film, sloppy edges, knife cuts on glass or rubber, illegal shades, and no one to call for warranty help. Removing failed tint and redoing it usually costs more than doing it right the first time.
How dark can you legally tint your windows in Idaho and Washington?
In general, Idaho requires the front side windows to let in at least 35% of light, and Washington's general limit is 24% light transmission. Rules vary by window and can change, so confirm your state's current law before you choose a shade.
