Researching the right shop to protect your vehicle is worth the time. Below is a set of questions you can use when interviewing any PPF shop. The answers shown are how we operate at Glänzen PPF + Ceramic Coatings . If another shop gives a very different answer, it’s worth asking why.

On pricing: we won’t be the cheapest. We price fairly at national market rates so we can use quality materials, work carefully, and be here long-term to support you.

Regardless of whether you choose us, we’ll be here to help with any car care questions or referrals you need. We’re a relationships-first business, not a transactional one.

Branding & Training

Are you aligned with reputable brands and trained on current techniques?

Yes. We work with top-tier film manufacturers and stay current on cutting software, prep, install, and aftercare practices. We’ll explain why we recommend a specific film for your use case instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all product.

We also attend training around the country, and even host public trainings at our shop. We are one of the few shops in this area helping to train PPF installers on a public level.

Preparation & Process

What is your paint prep before film goes on?

Strip wash, iron decontamination, clay, panel-by-panel alcohol wipe, and a light single-stage polish when needed that removes roughly 50–60 percent of defects for clarity under film. Heavier correction is available on request.

Do you disassemble parts for cleaner coverage?

When it improves results and is safe. Mirrors, badges, vents, and select trim may be removed or loosened with proper protection. Hardware is bagged and torque-spec reinstalled. If a part is fragile, we explain the tradeoff and offer options. For badges, we recommend removal for a clean, long-lasting install. We do not reinstall badges by default, but can order OEM replacements at cost and install them if you prefer.

Do you cut material on the car?

No. We do not freehand cut the material on your paint, a process known as “bulk installation”. We use a robot to cut the material from 3D scans fit perfectly for your vehicle. Minor trimming happens after placement when needed.

Do you wrap edges and minimize seams?

Yes, when panel design allows and without stressing the finish. We avoid unnecessary seams and use relief cuts where needed for longevity.

Full front vs. partial, how do I choose?

Full front protects the highest impact zones and eliminates the visible hood line. Partial is a budget option and has a visible edge. If you drive highways or prefer a cleaner look, full front is the standard. Full front also avoids a fade line at the partial edge over time.

Tools, Materials & Environment

Which film do you install and what thickness?

We primarily install name-brand films in the 8 mil class with 10-year warranties. Modern premium films are very similar in quality compared to 5+ years ago. We’ll match film to your goals, whether that’s self-healing gloss, matte, black, or specialty finishes. Current reputable films include STEK, Xpel, UltraFit, Geoshield, Optical, and Global - You can’t go wrong with any of these.

Will it look factory?

Quality film has a very light texture like OEM clear. It should not mute color or create waves. Matte film should look even and consistent. Factory matte paint can show a slight tone difference next to a PPF-covered panel. We’re happy to show finished cars indoors and outside.

Is your installation area climate-controlled?

Yes. We control temperature and humidity, use very bright inspection lighting, and wash with deionized spot-free water.

Do you have filtration, lifts, and peel boards to reduce contamination?

Yes. We built beyond industry norms with raised flooring to reduce kicked-up dust, portable glass peel boards near the vehicle, air filtration with frequent air exchanges, and vehicle lifts so we can work at eye level on lower sections.

Quality Control & Documentation

What is your check-in process?

We photograph your vehicle thoroughly at drop-off and log the VIN and mileage. We can also report your protection investment to Carfax. Please bring the car clean so we can review any concerns together and keep the workspace cleaner.

Do you measure paint thickness or check repainted areas?

Yes. We use a micron-level paint gauge, document thin or repainted panels, and adjust technique. A PDF report is available on request at drop-off.

What’s the acceptable quality at your shop?

Minor dust nibs near tight edges can be unavoidable with any film. We work to minimize them and will correct anything noticeable during install or at your follow-up. The goal is to provide real-world protection from chips and scratches with the cleanest presentation possible.

Service, Support & Liability

What if something happens to my vehicle while it’s with you?

We are fully licensed and insured with garagekeepers coverage. If damage occurs, we notify you immediately and manage the repair. Our shop is monitored with facial recognition cameras and alarms.

Do you provide pickup, delivery, or a loaner?

Yes. We offer pickup and delivery for a small fee. After-hours drop-off or pickup is available with an access code. We also offer Tesla Model Y and Model 3 rentals at our cost, about $70 per day. Some packages include a complimentary Tesla loaner.

How long will the install take?

Full front is typically 1–2 days with an overnight cure. Whole body is usually 3–5 days, depending on complexity and any disassembly. You receive a written timeline before we start. We tend to schedule more time than we think we’ll need, so we never have to rush an installation.

Warranty & Business Stability

What happens to my PPF warranty if your shop closes or I move?

Your warranty is with the film manufacturer and follows the vehicle. If you move, we’ll help you locate a vetted shop and provide your paperwork.

What exactly is covered under the manufacturer's warranty?

Film defects under regular use, including yellowing, cracking, bubbling, and delamination. Impact damage is not a defect. We also back our installation quality during the cure period and correct early edge lift or missed debris. We include a complimentary two-week follow-up appointment to inspect and trim, and we fix anything that doesn’t meet industry standards.

How long is the warranty term?

Our primary films carry a 10-year warranty. Specialty options can differ. Your coverage is listed on your quote.

Maintenance & Aftercare

What should I do right after installation?

Do not wash for 7 days. Moisture, small bubbles, and faint haze are normal during cure. Park in the sun when you can. Do not press bubbles or pick edges. We’ll address anything that remains at your two-week follow-up.

How do I wash going forward?

Hand wash or touchless only. Avoid brush washes. If you use a pressure washer, stay at least 3 feet from PPF edges and use a wide fan pattern. Use pH-neutral soap and clean, dry towels. Remove bugs, sap, and water spots promptly with safe cleaners. Wash at least every two weeks, preferably once a week.

Do you offer a follow-up visit?

Yes, complimentary at two weeks. We inspect edges, address small issues that can appear during cure, and answer care questions. If you ever see an edge lift larger than a thumbnail, contact us and we’ll handle it. Please don’t manipulate bubbles or edges yourself.

Can I add ceramic coating on top of PPF?

Yes. We offer coating systems formulated for film. They reduce maintenance effort and make cleaning easier. They do not replace the chip resistance of PPF.

Pricing & Transparency

What determines price, and what is included?

Coverage area, film type, disassembly level, and vehicle design complexity. Your quote includes coverage maps, panel count, any paint correction, and whether a ceramic top coat is included. Old-film removal is quoted separately after a test section. Please tell us if any panels have been repainted.

Common Myths & Straight Talk

Is PPF completely invisible?

No. We minimize edges and seams and hide them when panel design allows. A trained eye can find edges. Zero visible edges everywhere is not realistic.

Will PPF stop every rock chip?

It dramatically reduces chips and pitting. Extreme impacts can still mark or puncture film. The film takes the hit and can be replaced without repainting the panel in most cases.

Can you install over defects and make them disappear?

Film can mask many light to medium swirls. It will not hide deep scratches, sanding marks, or raised touch-up. Proper prep is the difference between “covered” and “factory-clean.”

Step-by-Step Glass Cleaning Process:

Start with the Interior Windshield

This is the toughest part, so tackle it first.
Mist your standard microfiber or paper towel with your cleaner (3 sprays max).
Wipe the outer edges of the glass and any trim first to avoid dragging dirt later.
Clean the entire windshield with that towel to remove all residue.

Switch to Your Premium Glass Towel

Using the Autofiber Glass Reacher Tool with the Flip Towel (smooth side), apply one light spray of cleaner to the towel.
Sit in the passenger seat, lean across, and make vertical strokes across the interior windshield.

Repeat for Side and Rear Windows

1. Why Aftercare Matters

While your ceramic coating is incredibly durable, it’s not invincible. Maintaining it correctly will not only preserve the appearance but also extend the life of your coating. Without proper care, you may start to see water spots, diminished hydrophobic properties, and even surface etching.

2. The First Week: Cure Period

The first 7 days are critical. Avoid full car washes during this time and follow these guidelines:

Don’t wash your vehicle for 7 days.
Remove contaminants immediately —bird droppings, bug guts, and sap can damage uncured coating. Dab them off gently without scrubbing.
If your car gets dusty, lightly rinse and blot dry with a soft towel or air dry with a blower.

Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Window Tint on Residential and Commercial Windows

Installing window tint enhances privacy, reduces glare, and improves energy efficiency in both residential and commercial settings. Follow this comprehensive guide to achieve a professional and clean installation. Step 1: Prepare Your Tools and Workspace

Set Up Your Razor Blade:
Place your razor blade on the tint box for easy access.
Cut a slit in the box to securely hold your tape measure.
Measure and Cut the Tint:
Leaving 1.5” extra for each dimension, place a razor blade on the box sticking up then pull the tint through it so it cuts at that dimension.
Ensure a factory edge is in place for each pattern of tint when possible.
Split the tint if necessary, maintaining factory edges on each piece.

Step 2: Clean the Window Thoroughly

Scrub the Window:
Use a white scrub pad to remove dirt, grease, and debris from the glass surface. Use a razor blade with a new stainless steel blade if required.
Squeegee the Window:
Remove any remaining residue and moisture with a squeegee and clean microfiber around the edges.
Ensure the window is completely clean and dry before proceeding.
Address the Corners and Tight Spots:
Check for Plastic Welds:
Some windows may have plastic welds or tight corners that impede the film.
Trim as Necessary:
Use your knife to carefully cut out any obstructions.
Test Fit:
Ensure your knife can slip behind the corner; if it can, there's enough space for the film.

Step 3: Position the Tint on the Window

Place the Tint:
Position the tint on the window with the adhesive side facing the glass (liner touching the window, tint side out).
Align the Tint:
Align the factory edge of the tint with one edge of the window.
Check for any light gaps; if present, you may need to trim the edge.

Step 4: Cut the Tint Film

Prepare to Cut:
Tack film at top and down the middle once factory edge is aligned.
Hold the tint firmly against the window using your pinky finger.
Run your collapsed knife along the edge of the film to tuck it into the corner. Then extend your freshly snapped knife blade by one click to ensure a sharp cut.
Cut the Sides and Top:
Run your knife along the middle section to push the film into the corner.
Angle your knife towards the window at a 45-degree angle for the sides and top.
Cut the Bottom Edge:
Hold the knife perpendicular (at a 90-degree angle ) to the window for the bottom edge.
This creates a slight gap at the bottom to allow water to drain and prevent contamination.
Cut Near the Corners:
Begin cuts a few inches away from each corner.
Stop cutting when the film starts to bunch up to avoid wrinkles.
Tear away excess film carefully to prevent creasing.

Step 5: Trim and Finalize Edges

Slip the Film Back Slightly:
Gently pull the film back along the edges without creating creases.
Trim Remaining Edges:
Roll the film back slightly without creasing it (like a two-stage process).
Use a square or tri-edge tool to cut any remaining excess film for straight edges.
Repeat for All Edges:
Ensure all four edges are neatly trimmed and fit perfectly on the glass. Light gaps should be within 1/16”.

Step 6: Prepare for Reverse Rolling (For Larger Windows)

Flip the Film:
Turn the film around so the liner faces you.
Use a Larger Window (Optional):
If available, place the film on a larger window like a slider to make handling easier.
Soak and Clean the Surface:
Spray the window generously with application solution.
Ensure the surface is clean to prevent contamination.

Step 7: Peel and Spray the Liner

Peel Back the Liner:
Starting from the top, peel back the liner about three-quarters of the way down.
Spray the adhesive side of the film as you peel to keep it wet.
Reapply the Liner:
Place the liner back up temporarily to protect the adhesive.
Peel Up the Bottom Third:
Peel the bottom third of the liner and spray the adhesive side.

Step 8: Start the Reverse Roll

Begin Rolling from the Bottom:
Start rolling the film from the bottom edge upward.
Ensure the liner ends up on the inside of the roll.
Create Initial Roll:
Pull tension evenly on both sides.
Roll your fingers to start forming the roll.
Tighten the Roll:
Continue rolling tightly, leaving about a foot of film on the glass.
Complete the Roll:
Flip the roll off the glass.
Finish rolling up the remaining film. Place roll on window sill and put something in front of it so it doesn’t unroll.

Step 9: Final Window Preparation

Spray the Window Again or Leave Dry:
Use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the edges of the window frame.
Squeegee a final time using techniques in earlier steps.
Apply a final spray of application solution to the window.
Focus on the center of the glass to avoid excess moisture at the edges.
For some windows , one may opt to leave it dry when reverse rolling.
Avoid Contamination:
Spray away from painted walls or surfaces to reduce the risk of contamination.
Temperature Considerations:
Adjust the amount of solution based on the temperature; warmer conditions may require more solution.

Step 10: Install the Tint Film

Peel Back the Liner Edge:
At the edge of the roll, peel back about three inches of the liner.
Spray the Adhesive Side:
Spray the exposed adhesive side of the film thoroughly.
Position the Film:
Place the roll at the top of the window.
Begin unrolling the film down the window, ensuring it stays aligned.
All gaps should be within 1/16th”
Align the Top Edge:
Leave a small gap at the top initially.
Once unrolled, slide the film up until it just contacts the top frame, then pull back just a hair.
Create a Bottom Gap:
Ensure there's a small gap at the bottom for water drainage without pulling in contamination. It should be flush with the bottom of the frame.

Step 11: Tack the Film into Place

Secure the Top Edge:
Gently tack the film across the top using your squeegee.
Initial Squeegee Stroke:
Make one swipe down the center to adhere the film and remove large air bubbles.

Step 12: Squeegee Out the Water and Air

Work from Top to Bottom:
Starting on one side (e.g., left side), squeegee from top to bottom.
Push the water toward the edges, stopping about one inch from the edge to prevent shifting and pulling contamination in.
Monitor Alignment:
Continuously check to ensure the film remains aligned correctly.
Use a Towel:
Place a towel behind your squeegee to catch excess water for the final swipe down the sides and bottom. When working the bottom, start in the middle and work towards the sides.
This helps prevent water from seeping back under the film.

Step 12a: Squeegee the Bottom Edge

Start from the Middle:
Squeegee from the center toward the sides at the bottom of the window.
Use a Wrapped Squeegee:
Wrap a towel around your squeegee to absorb excess water and prevent "fingers" (small air pockets).
Ensure Complete Adhesion:
Make sure the film is fully adhered with no bubbles or wrinkles.

Step 13: Clean the Edges and Frame

Wipe Excess Water:
Remove any moisture to prevent contamination and ensure good adhesion.
Final Cleaning:
If needed, perform a final spray and wipe down to ensure cleanliness.

Step 14: Final Squeegee and Edge Work

Spritz the Film Again:
Lightly spray the film to lubricate the surface for the final squeegee pass.
Use a Harder Squeegee:
Perform a firmer squeegee from top to bottom to extract any remaining water.
Follow with a Towel:
Use a towel to absorb water as you squeegee to keep the edges dry.

Step 15: Secure the Edges

Chase the Edges:
Wrap a hard card or tri-edge tool with a blue paper towel.
Dry the Edges:
Run the wrapped tool along the edges to remove moisture and ensure they lay flat.
Use a Blower if Needed:
If excess water remains, use a blower to dry the edges thoroughly.

Final Checks

Inspect the Installation:
Look over the entire window to ensure there are no bubbles, creases, or misalignments.
